A rat bit a woman in the historic
centre of Venice on Wednesday, local sources said.
The woman, a foreigner, was going to work along Calle Larga San
Marco, an area of boutiques between Santa Maria del Giglio and
Campo San Moisè, not far from St Mark's Square, when the animal
popped out of canalside and bit her on the foot.
The woman cried out in pain and some passersby ran to her aid.
They advised her to go and get first aid, which she did.
The local health agency (USL) said she had been seen by Red
Cross doctors who medicated her and prescribed antibiotics.
She was discharged with instructions to keep an eye on the
possible appearance of fever symptoms, the USL said.
