Italy coach Roberto Mancini said he
still has a lot of work to do to rebuild the European champions
after their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup following
Tuesday's encouraging 2-1 win over Hungary that took them to the
top of their Nations League group.
Goals by Nicolò Barella and Lorenzo Pellegrini earned the
Azzurri the win, with Hungary scoring via a Gianluca Mancini own
goal, giving them four points from two games after Saturday's
1-1 draw with Germany.
"We played well, especially in the first half, and should have
won by a bigger margin," Mancini said.
"Their goal led to a bit of fear creeping in. We were also a bit
tired and conceding a goal in a match that should have already
been finished off can cause you problems.
"It was an Italy side full of youngsters who need to work hard.
There's a long way to go, but the important thing was to win."
