Lightning hit a tree in Rome's Villa Borghese park on Saturday sending it crashing to the ground and injuring two women, one seriously.
The seriously injured woman, a 47-year-old Croat, was taken in
code red to the Policlinico Umberto I Hospital.
The other woman was treated at the spot.
The incident took place in the grounds of the Renaissance Villa
that houses one of Italy's best art collections.
It happened at a bus stop in Viale Fiorello La Guardia.
Local police and fire services cordoned off the area.
The lightning strike split the tree in two and it hit another
tree on its way down to the bus stop.
Italy has been hit by an unseasonable wave of storms and wintry
weather.
