Italian sprinter Sonny Colbrelli
suffered cardiac arrest immediately after finishing second in
the first stage of the Tour of Catalonia Monday and was rushed
to hospital.
The Team Bahrain Victorious rider, 31, from the northern town of
Desenzano del Garda on Lake Garda, came second in a sprint
finish to Australia's Michael Matthews at Sant Feliu de Guixols,
a Costa Brava town.
After receiving emergency treatment Colbrelli was taken to a
hospital in Girona where he is scheduled to have further tests
Tuesday.
The team said "after being admitted to the Hospital Universitari
de Girona by doctor Josep Trueta, Sonny Colbrelli was conscious
and felt good.
"Since then he has been in contact with his family and friends
while he is recovering in hospital".
