Martina Comparelli, one of the
spokespersons for the Fridays for Future movement in Italy, said
young people are demanding real action to combat the climate
crisis now, rather than more promises that may end up not being
kept.
"We came here to Glasgow from Italy to tell the leaders that
they must treat the climate emergency like an emergency,"
Comparelli told ANSA before joining a group of Italians at the
Fridays for Future march in Glasgow along with fellow activists
Greta Thunberg and Vanessa Nakate.
"They must stop delaying, stop using our words and the not
taking action.
"They must stop giving priority to the interests of the
fossil-fuel companies," added the 28-year-old woman from Milan,
who went to Glasgow by train.
"It is necessary to put the health of the environment and of the
citizens at the centre (of policy), take commitments and put
them into practice - immediately, not in 2050.
"I say to our leaders act now, otherwise you are just having us
on".
