One of two men held over the shooting in Rome at the weekend that led to promising young swimmer Manuel Bortuzzo being paralysed from the waist down has said it is right that he is punished. "I turned myself in and I'm going to prison because it is right that justice is done for Manuel," Lorenzo Marinelli said, according a statement on police questioning that took place on Wednesday. Lawyers representing Marinelli and the other suspect, Daniel Bazzano, said the alleged shooters would sent a letter of apology.
"We want to write a letter to Manuel's family," they said, according to the lawyers.
"We are devastated by what happened".
The two men on Wednesday confessed to shooting Bortuzzo and said they shot him by mistake.
