Pope Francis on Wednesday thanked the association of Italian municipalities, ANCI, for the work it does in welcoming refugees. Francis wrote to Catania Mayor and ANCI President Enzo Bianco voicing "my admiration and gratitude for your intelligent and courageous work on behalf of our refugee brothers and sisters". He said "my door will always be open for you and this new network (of mayors)", after a two-day summit of the world's mayors in the Vatican on December 9 and 10. Francis was referring to the final summit document, unanimously approved, in which the mayors said that "refugees are our brothers and sisters".
