AC Milan midfielder Riccardo
Montolivo on Monday hit out at his ill-wishers after tearing his
left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) playing for Italy in
Thursday's 1-1 draw with Spain.
The Rossoneri and Azzurri playmaker is set for a long
spell out.
"Thanks from the heart to all the people who had a thought
for me... fans, colleagues, people in the business,"
Montolivo, 31, wrote on his Facebook page.
"It was great to receive so many shows of esteem and
respect in such a tough moment.
"And a caress to all those who said they hoped I broke my
tibia and my calf, that I broke all my ligaments and died...
with the hope life makes it possible for you to grow in
education and human respect".
Montolivo often takes flak from Milan fans at the San Siro
and was jeered by some as he was taken off the pitch on a
stretcher on Thursday.
