The Indian Supreme Court
on September 20 will take up the request by marine Massimiliano
Latorre's defence team that he be permitted to remain in Italy
until the conclusion of an international arbitration on his case
by The Hague, which is expected to end in late 2018, ANSA
learned on Thursday from legal sources.
The court request was necessary because in recent months
the Indian Supreme Court ruled to prolong Latorre's stay in
Italy for health reasons only through September 30 of this year.
Latorre is accused with fellow marine Salvatore Girone of
killing two Indian fishermen in 2012.
Girone left India and returned to Italy on May 28 after an
international tribunal of arbitration in The Hague ruled that he
could join Latorre in Italy for the duration of the arbitration.
