The UK capital has taken on the hues of the Italian tricolour this spring with a series of exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events showcasing the best of the country's past and present talent. 'Botticelli Reimagined' at the Victoria and Albert Museum from March to July juxtaposes the work of the Florentine Renaissance master against that of more recent artists he inspired.
During the same period the Royal Academy in Piccadilly presents 'In the Age of Giorgione', with iconic works by the Venetian Renaissance master and his better-known 'rival' Titian.
The Science Museum devotes 'The Mechanics of Genius' to the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci until September, while 'Sicily: Culture and Conquest' will run at the British Museum from April 21-August 14.
Gianandrea Noseda has recently been appointed principal guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra for the 2016-17 season, while Italian-British conductor Antonio Pappano has held the position of music director at the Royal Opera House since 2002. London's newspaper The Guardian has listed the latest films by Italian directors Paolo Sorrentino and Luca Guadagnino - respectively, Youth and A Bigger Splash - among "the cultural events not to be missed in 2016". Italian cinema is also showcased in the sixth edition of the festival 'Cinema Made in Italy' at the Italian Institute of Culture with its programme of nine films. In May, the Textile and Fashion Museum dedicates the exhibition 'Missoni, Art, Colour' to fashion designers Ottavio and Rosita Missoni and the Modernist painters that have inspired them.
