Italian actress Monica Bellucci,
who at 51 has become the oldest actress to star as a 'Bond girl'
or female sidekick to James Bond, on Tuesday denied that she had
rejected a similar chance 30 years ago.
"It's not true that I refused to star in a 007 film 30
years ago," she said, adding that it would have been a more
obvious thing for her to do at that time.
Bellucci was speaking at the presentation of 'Ville-Marie'
by Guy Edoin at the Rome Film Festival, in which she plays a
famous European actress, Sophie Bernard, who is filming in
Montreal when she meets her estranged son.
She also described her role in the film Spectre, by Sam
Mendes, which is due out on November 5 in Italy, saying she
played a widow with many secrets, called Lucia Sciarra.
When asked how she viewed her identity now that she was an
international actress, she replied with certainty: "I define
myself as Italian, in fact very Italian".
