The 88th edition of Pitti Uomo
menswear salon taking place at Florence's Fortezza da Basso June
16-19 and showcasing 1,156 brands this year focuses on
international fashion brands.
Menwear guest designer Moschino will send Jeremy Scott's
first collection down the runway at Palazzo Corsini Parione on
June 18, while rendering an homage to 50-year menswear veteran
Nino Cerutti with an exhibit titled Il Signor Nino.
The latter opens June 16 through July 7 at the Marino
Marini Museum.
Womenswear guest designer Thomas Tai - the Canadian-born
recipient of the 2014 LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize - will
present an event June 17 in the Limonaia di Zanobi del Rosso in
the Boboli Gardens.
The 88th Pitti Uomo Designer Project will be Kilgour
creative director Carlo Brandelli, also debuting June 17 in the
Palazzo Medici Riccardi.
The big novelty at Pitti 88 is the gender-transcending Open
section, while luxury avantgarde tendencies can be visited at
Unconventional.
The styles of tomorrow will be present in the Futuro
Maschile section, as well as Touch! and l'Altro Uomo sections.
There is no shortage of more traditional ideas, as well as
a section dedicated to foreign countries - Constellation Africa
showcases four stylists who produce in their countries of
origin. These are Dent de Man, MaXhosa by Laduma, Orange Culture
and Projecto Mental.
The guiding theme of the salon is That's Pitticolor, to be
explored in a set design by Oliviero Baldini, while the salon
this year will also showcase the first of what will be a
fashion-inspired film series created in collaboration with
talented directors.
In another highlight WP Store celebrates 30 years in
business with the launch of its BlueBlack Collection - 20
limited-edition products created in collaboration with 18 brands
that have made WP history, while Geox returns to Pitti in an
independent space, the Medici courtyard.
In collaboration with the Italian Trade Commission (ICE)
Saks Fifth Avenue celebrates Italian sartorial style by
showcasing Italian labels at its flagship New York store as well
as 39 others for six weeks beginning on Father's Day, June 21.
