The 88th edition of Pitti Uomo menswear salon taking place at Florence's Fortezza da Basso June 16-19 and showcasing 1,156 brands this year focuses on international fashion brands.
Menwear guest designer Moschino will send Jeremy Scott's first collection down the runway at Palazzo Corsini Parione on June 18, while rendering an homage to 50-year menswear veteran Nino Cerutti with an exhibit titled Il Signor Nino.
The latter opens June 16 through July 7 at the Marino Marini Museum.
Womenswear guest designer Thomas Tai - the Canadian-born recipient of the 2014 LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize - will present an event June 17 in the Limonaia di Zanobi del Rosso in the Boboli Gardens.
The 88th Pitti Uomo Designer Project will be Kilgour creative director Carlo Brandelli, also debuting June 17 in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi. The big novelty at Pitti 88 is the gender-transcending Open section, while luxury avantgarde tendencies can be visited at Unconventional. The styles of tomorrow will be present in the Futuro Maschile section, as well as Touch! and l'Altro Uomo sections. There is no shortage of more traditional ideas, as well as a section dedicated to foreign countries - Constellation Africa showcases four stylists who produce in their countries of origin. These are Dent de Man, MaXhosa by Laduma, Orange Culture and Projecto Mental.
The guiding theme of the salon is That's Pitticolor, to be explored in a set design by Oliviero Baldini, while the salon this year will also showcase the first of what will be a fashion-inspired film series created in collaboration with talented directors.
In another highlight WP Store celebrates 30 years in business with the launch of its BlueBlack Collection - 20 limited-edition products created in collaboration with 18 brands that have made WP history, while Geox returns to Pitti in an independent space, the Medici courtyard. In collaboration with the Italian Trade Commission (ICE) Saks Fifth Avenue celebrates Italian sartorial style by showcasing Italian labels at its flagship New York store as well as 39 others for six weeks beginning on Father's Day, June 21.
