An exhibition of 24 artistic
manhole covers hand-painted and designed by leading fashion
designers was unveiled Tuesday.
The exhibit entitled 'Above the Below' was organised by
Metroweb and was conceived by Monica Nascimbeni with sponsorship
from Milan city council in partnership with Oxfam Italy.
The manhole lids will be visible until January 2016 on an
itinerary from the via MonteNapoleone to the via Sant'Andrea
including contributions by Giorgio Armani, Just Cavalli, Etro,
Missoni, Larusmiani, Laura Biagiotti, Costume National,
Moschino, 10 Corso Como, Prada, Trussardi, DSquared2, Versace,
Iceberg, Brunello Cucinelli, Hogan, Alberta Ferretti, Valentino,
Salvatore Ferragamo, Emilio Pucci, Giuseppe Zanotti Design and
Ermenegildo Zegna.
As during previous editions of the exhibit, the manhole
covers will be sold at auction at Christie's with the proceeds
going to Oxfam Italia.
It has been described as the civil society participant of
the Expo 2015 universal exposition, with donations going for the
"improvement of the socio-economic conditions of around 20,000
people" in Italy and abroad through micro-entrepreneurial
activity and cooperatives, especially in the agro-foods sector,
organisers said.
