France's Tony Gallopin crossed the
finish line for a thrilling win at stage 11 of the Tour de
France, while Italy's Vincenzo Nibali keeps the yellow jersey
and Slovakia's Peter Sagan remains points leader.
Gallopin edged out Germany's John Degenkolb, Matteo Trentin
and Daniele Bannati of Italy, and Australia's Simon Gerran, by a
few seconds to win the 187.5 km Besancon-Oyonnax track.
Points-leader Sagan finished in ninth place.
This is the second first place finish for Gallopin. He won
Stage 9 on July 14, only to be bested by Nibali.
Nibali remains the overall leader.
He regained command of the Tour de France on Monday by
winning the gruelling the 10th stage to take back the yellow
jersey after his main rival, Spain's Alberto Contador, crashed
out.
He is seeking to complete his set of grand tour titles
after winning the Vuelta a Espana in 2010 and the Giro di Italia
last year.
