The Cannes Film Festival on
Thursday announced that Incompresa (Misunderstood), a film by
Italian filmmaker Asia Argento, was named an official selection
in the Un Certain Regard section parallel to the competition for
the Palme d'Or.
Argento, the actress daughter of Italian master of gore
Dario Argento, will compete for a prize that comes with a
distribution grant honoring young talent.
Starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Gabriel Garko, Argento's
third film is set in Rome and Turin, and tells the story of a
nine-year-old girl, played by Giulia Salerno, who wants nothing
but to be loved by her parents.
The title is said to be a "feminine" retelling of Luigi
Comencini's 1966 drama Incompreso.
