Individual EU states can't negotiate
with the United States over tariffs, Foreign Minister Antonio
Tajani said Friday.
"You cannot negotiate with the United States because the
competence of international trade is of the European Commission,
so (Trade) Commissioner (Maros) Sefcovic negotiates, listening
and discussing with us", said Tajani, who is also deputy premier
on the sidelines of a NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels.
"Then we need to work with the Americans at a European level to
reach a reduction, I hope that we can reach a reduction of half,
that is, reach only a 10% increase in tariffs".
