Photographer Emanuele Scorcelletti's latest project, 'Elegia Fantastica', has reached the city-state of Singapore. The exhibition, inaugurated in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Singapore, Dante Brandi, will be on view until 30 April, hosted at the Leica Galerie in the new store at the South Beach Quarter.
This exhibition of black and white images offers an intimate journey through the lens of one of the most original voices in contemporary photography, as Emanuele Scorcelletti returns to his Italian roots to capture moments of quiet beauty and deep meaning. Scorcelletti is a humanist photographer, deeply inspired by Italian photographic culture, particularly its rich poetic tradition. His passion for photography began at the age of six, when his mother gave him his first camera. Later, he studied at the Institut National de Photographie et Cinématographie (INRACI) in Brussels.
'Talking to the visitors of the exhibition,' he told ANSA, 'I realised that their Asian culture was able to capture and find something familiar in my images, and this makes me very happy indeed. To create works capable of moving all kinds of cultures, conveying beauty and harmony, I think that is a prerogative of art. Of course, then I was also able to speak and make my beautiful land known: Le Marche. In Singapore, I received an extraordinary welcome and was amazed and gratified by the care and attention shown by all the people I met. Differences (even religious ones) seem to coexist in harmony, the same harmony I try to bring out in my photos."
From 1989 to 2009, Scorcelletti was part of the Gamma Agency in Paris and continues to work as a freelance photographer for magazines, advertising and fashion. One of his most iconic images, a portrait of Sharon Stone on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, won the prestigious 2003 World Press Photo Award in the Arts and Culture category.
In addition to his famous portraits and images from the worlds of film, fashion and luxury brands, Scorcelletti has always devoted his work to social projects. His deep interest in the connections between people, nature and the environment has been reflected in many of his photographic series. Scorcelletti's work has received numerous awards and has been exhibited widely, including at the Leica Galleries in Munich and Salzburg.
