The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in
Venice is paying homage to the great Spanish master Pablo
Picasso on the 50th anniversary of his death with a special
exhibition of all his works in its collection.
Six works are on display in the lagoon city's Palazzo Venier dei
Leoni, spanning the period 1911-1939.
The exhibit opens with Picasso's Cubist masterpiece 'The Poet'
(1911) and also includes 'Pipe, Glass, Bottle of Vieux Marc'
(1914), 'The Studio' (1928), 'On the Beach' (1937), 'The Dream
and Lie of Franco' (1937) and 'Bust of a Man in a Striped Shirt'
(1939), offering an overview of Picasso's artistic evolution
over three decades.
The works on show were purchased by the American art collector
Peggy Guggenheim between the 1930s and the 1950s.
