Oil and gas giant ENI CEO Claudio
Descalzi on Thursday downplayed rumors of a merger between
ENI-owned Agenzia Giornalistica Italia (AGI) and ANSA news
agency.
"There could be one in future," Descalzi told reporters.
"It's not a priority right now".
The chief executive said "there have been talks (with
ANSA), but they slowed down".
"While AGI is not our core business,...it has a reason for
being due to its presence overseas," he added.
"It has significant costs, and must have autonomy. If we
were to find synergies or positive and constructive alliances we
could think about it - whether with ANSA or others. There are a
a lot of (news) agencies out there".
