A painting created by Vincent
van Gogh during the brief period when he worked side by side
with his friend Paul Gauguin in the south of France has been
sold at auction for $66.3 million (nearly 60 million euros),
Sothebys said Wednesday.
'Les Alyscamps,' painted in 1888, went under the hammer at
Sotheby's after going on sale with a reserve price of 40 million
euros.
It was sold to a private Asian collector. The record at
auction for a Van Gogh painting is $82.5 million.
